Registration Fee: Rs. 100 (for general male candidates) and for other categories of candidates, the registration fees is exempted.
The online Applications can be filled up to 24th March, 2021 till 6:00 PM. The eligible candidates will be issued an e-Admit Card three weeks before the commencement of the examination.

Eligibility Conditions:
(I) Nationality
- (1) For the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India.
- (2) For other services, a candidate must be either:—
- a. citizen of India, or
- b. a subject of Nepal, or
- c. a subject of Bhutan, or
- d. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
- e. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
(II) Age
The candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years (for the General category candidate) on 1 August, 2021.
- For Other Backward castes (OBC) the upper age limit is 35 years.
- For Scheduled castes (SC) and Scheduled tribes (ST), the limit is 37 years.
Number of Attempts:
- General category candidates – 6
- OBC category candidates – 9
- SC/ST candidates – till 37 years of age.
Educational Qualifications:
Candidate must be a graduate.
Plan of Examination:
The Civil Services Examination comprises two successive stages:
- (i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for Civil Services (Main) Examination; and
- (ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview/Personality Test) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts.
Exam Pattern for the Preliminary and Main Examinations:
A. PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION:
The Preliminary examination comprises of two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each.
Note:
- (i) Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions) and each will be of two hours duration.
- (ii) The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33% and each question of Paper-II carries 2.5 marks.
- (iii) The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.
- (iv) There will be negative marking for incorrect answers. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.
- (v) If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happen to be correct.
- (vi) If a question is left blank i.e. no answer is given by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.
General Studies Paper -I (Syllabus)
- Current events of national and international importance.
- History of India and Indian National Movement.
- Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
- Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
- Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
- General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization.
- General Science
General Studies Paper-II (Syllabus)
- Comprehension;
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability;
- Decision making and problem solving;
- General mental ability;
- Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. — Class X level);
B. MAIN EXAMINATION:
The Written Examination consists of the following 9 papers and each paper is of 3 hours duration:
- Two qualifying papers, (Note: marks for these two papers will not be counted at the time of preparation of the rank list and candidates need to attain at least 25% as minimum qualifying score)
- Seven merit-based papers
Note : Evaluation of the papers, namely, 'Essay', 'General Studies' and Optional Subject of all the candidates would be done simultaneously along with evaluation of their qualifying papers on ‘Indian Languages’ and ‘English’ but the papers on Éssay', General Studies and Optional Subject of only such candidates will be taken cognizance who attain 25% marks in ‘Indian Language’ and 25% in English as minimum qualifying standards in these qualifying papers.
Paper A is not mandatory for Persons with Benchmark Disability (only Hearing Impairment sub-category) and candidates hailing from the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim.

- Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and English.
Candidates will have the option to answer all the question papers, except the Qualifying Language Papers, Paper-A and Paper-B, in any one of the languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India or in English.
The question papers (other than the literature of language papers) will be set in Hindi and English only
C. UPSC Interview
Candidates who obtain such minimum qualifying marks in the written part of the Civil Services (Main) Examination as may be fixed by the Commission at their discretion, will be summoned by them for an Interview/Personality Test. The number of candidates to be summoned for Interview/Personality Test will be about twice of the number of vacancies to be filled. The Interview/Personality Test will carry 275 marks (with no minimum qualifying marks).
Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written part as well as Interview/Personality Test) would determine their final ranking. Candidates will be allotted to the various Services keeping in view their ranks in the examination and the preferences expressed by them for the various Services and posts.
