Renowned musicologist and cultural personality of Bangladesh Dr. Sanjida Khatun was presented the Padma Shri Award for 2021 by High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami in Dhaka on Tuesday. High Commissioner Doraiswami presented the award to Sanjida Khatun on behalf of the President as Dr. Sanjida Khatun was unable to travel to India to receive the award from the President in person due to health reasons.
Dr. Sanjida Khatun has been awarded the Padma Shri for her distinguished contribution to Arts. The eminent musicologist is among the principal founders of Mukti Sangrami Shilpi Sangstha which played a prominent role in organising artists of the then East Pakistan during the liberation war of 1971.
An eminent Raindra Sangeet exponent, she is also among the founders of the Chhayanaut which is a renowned institute promoting Bengali culture, classical music and dance.
The High Commissioner also felicitated Dr. Khatun with a token of appreciation which was presented to Padma Awardees of 2020 and 2021 on Maitri Diwas.
