Government releases Desertification and Land Degradation Atlas of India

• About 29.32% of the Total Geographical Area of the country is undergoing the process of desertification/land degradation.
• India hosted the 14th session of Conference of Parties (COP 14) of United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in September 2019.
• India is striving towards achieving the national commitments of Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) by 2030
• National Afforestation & Eco-Development Board (Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change) is implementing the “National Afforestation Programme (NAP)” for ecological restoration of degraded forest areas.
• Other schemes: Green India Mission, Compensatory Afforestation Fund, Nagar Van Yojana etc.
