Why in news: Egypt angry as it says Ethiopia has resumed filling GERD

• The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, formerly known as the Millennium Dam and sometimes referred to as Hidase Dam, is a gravity dam on the Blue Nile River in Ethiopia.
• Egypt depends on the Nile for nearly all of its irrigation and drinking water,and  sees the dam as an existential threat.

Nile River

• Nile river is the longest and oldest river on Earth
• The Blue Nile originates at Lake Tana in Ethiopia. It travels for approximately 1,450 km through Ethiopia and Sudan.
• Blue Nile joins White Nile at Khartoum (Capital of Sudan) and forms the Nile River.
