Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah has stressed the need for a new cooperative policy in the country. He said the Centre will come up with the new policy in next 8 to 9 months which will address the issue of Primary Agricultural Credit Society to APEX Cooperative Federation. Addressing the National Conference on Cooperation Policy in New Delhi today, he emphasized the need for transparency in cooperative sector to increase the trust of small farmers in it. He also called for professionalism and modernization of the sector. Saying that the cooperative sector has to be strengthened for the economic empowerment of the country, the Minister said there is a need to build infrastructure to ensure loans for cooperative bodies. He reiterated government's commitment to cooperative saying the Narendra Modi government has created a new Ministry of Cooperation with an aim to strengthen the cooperative movement in the country.
Mr Shah said 6th July 2021 was a very important day for the cooperative sector when Centre established the Ministry of Cooperation, and long pending demand of people associated with this sector to recognize the principle of
cooperation got fulfilled. He said Prime Minister has set the goal of Sahakar se Samridhi in front of the cooperative sector.
The Minister said there should not be any village in developed states where there is no PACS, milk cooperative market, credit society, or cooperative bank. He said cooperative is the only model that can make 80 crore people of the country financially prosperous. He gave the example of IFFCO and Amul which have also kept the spirit of cooperative intact while following the footsteps of Corporate governance.
