Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated several development projects worth 10,000 crore rupees in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh today. These projects include the Fertiliser Plant, AIIMS and a new building of the regional centre of Indian Council of Medical Research-ICMR.
The Prime Minister in his address said, he is grateful to inaugurate the projects whose foundation stone was laid by him five years back.
Mr. Modi said today’s programme is a testimony of the fact that nothing is impossible for New India.
The Prime Minister further added that before 2014 the country faced the acute crisis of fertilisers. The supply chain had many pilferage points. He said, the government has worked on three formulas to end this crisis. Mr. Modi said, at the first instance unfair use of urea was stopped by 100 per cent neem-coating it. Farmers were given soil health cards to assess the right fertiliser for their fields. As the third formula, the government focussed on enhancing the production of urea.
Mr. Modi said fertiliser plants which were shut down in the country, have been revived. He also said, four more fertiliser plants are to be revived in the coming years.
The Prime Minister added a gas pipeline has been laid from Haldia to Jagdishpur to provide fuel to the fertiliser plants. He said, ‘PM Oorja Ganga Gas Pipeline Project’ will provide cheap gas to the households as well.
The Prime Minister said, the revival of the Fertiliser Plant in Gorakhpur will generate employment opportunities in the region. He said, the allied economic activities will also get a boost.
The Prime Minister further added that revival of the Fertiliser Plant is a step forward to make India Atmanirbhar in the production of Urea. Mr. Modi said, the supply of fertiliser from the overseas market was badly hit during the Covid pandemic and its cost increased manifold but the government ensured that the farmers keep getting the fertiliser at the cheapest price.
The Prime Minister said, the Gorakhpur Fertiliser Plant will be helpful to the farmers in the region and will also generate employment opportunities.
Mr. Modi further said the demand for AIIMS in Gorakhpur was pending since years. He said, no government paid any heed to it. He said, the centre and the state government have worked together to strengthen health infrastructure in the eastern Uttar Pradesh. He said, these efforts are evident on the ground as Gorakhpur and Basti division now has 90 per cent fewer cases of the deadly Japanese Encephalitis which had plagued the region for decades. Mr. Modi lauded Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath government for eliminating Japanese Encephalitis disease from Purvanchal.
The Prime Minister said, the government is committed to provide world-class health facilities in every part of the country. He said, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave his nod to open 6 AIIMS in the county. He said, the work is on to build 16 AIIMS. The Prime Minister added the government is working with the aim to open at least one Medical College in each district in the country.
Mr. Modi also lauded Yogi Adityanath government for continuously working for the benefit of the farmers. He said, the Uttar Pradesh government has paid a large chunk of the dues to the sugarcane farmers in comparison to the previous governments. He also said, the state government has increased the purchase price of the sugarcane to 350 rupees per quintal.
The Prime Minister also appreciated Yogi Adityanath government for improving law and order situation in the state. He said, the state has embarked on the path of development as the mafias and criminals are lodged in jail.
The Prime Minister also said the double engine government in Uttar Pradesh works with double speed. He said, the BJP government works for the poor and with noble intention.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in his address said, the BJP government has made the impossible possible by inaugurating the fertiliser plant which was lying shut for 30 years. He said, today’s programme is a testimony of ‘Modi hai to Mumkin hai’ slogan.
The Chief Minister said, the Fertiliser Plant was closed on 10th June 1990. The previous governments did not pay any heed to restart this plant. He said, the plant is not only revived but also has an enhanced capacity to produce fertiliser.
He said, Gorakhpur and eastern Uttar Pradesh was seen as a region infested with diseases. Child mortality due to Japanese Encephalitis was very high. Now, AIIMS and the regional centre of ICMR will help in improving the scenario in Purvanchal.
The Chief Minister said, health infrastructure has improved under the BJP government. He said, before 2014, there was only one Medical College in Gorakhpur in the Purvanchal. But now, Medical colleges are functioning in Deoria, Kushinagar, Siddharthanagar, Basti, Bahraich and Ayodhya districts.
He also said, till 2014 there were only 17 Medical colleges in 12 districts in the state but now 59 medical Colleges are in Uttar Pradesh.
The Chief Minister said, the world has appreciated the Covid management in India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, Uttar Pradesh has successfully administered 17 crore doses of Covid vaccine.
The foundation stone of the two mega projects, the Fertiliser Plant and the AIIMS, inaugurated today was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016. Both these projects are ready within five years. The foundation stone of the regional centre of ICMR was laid three years back by the then Union Health Minister and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. These three development projects are seen as a game changer in Purvanchal.
The fertiliser plant will prove instrumental in enhancing farmer’s income by supplying them ample urea fertiliser. The plant will serve the needs of the farmers not only in Purvanchal but also the adjoining Bihar and other states. AIIMS, with its world class facilities will enhance the health infrastructure in the eastern Uttar Pradesh. It will serve a big population of Bihar and the Tarai region as well. The regional centre of ICMR has already been a boon to the region. This centre has been of major help in eradicating Japanese Encephalitis from the Purvanchal. With its new building in BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, the centre is now fully functional.
