World Earth Day 2022
The World Earth Day, also known as the International Mother Earth Day, is celebrated every year on 22nd April. It was first celebrated on 22nd April, 1970.
Key Highlights:
- On earth day, we emphasize on the increasing environmental problems, including overpopulation, loss of biodiversity, depleting ozone layer and rising pollution.
- The World Earth Day’s celebration on 22 April is important because it is spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere around this time.
- As the weather is also bearable at this time, it is more pleasurable to continue the celebrations of Earth Day.
- The theme of Earth Day 2022 is to ‘Invest in our planet’.
- In 2021, the theme was to ‘Restore our Earth’ and in 2020, the theme was ‘Climate action’.
Atal Pension Yojana Enrollments Crossed 4.01 Crore
Total enrollments under Atal Pension Yojana (APS) Scheme have crossed 4.01 crore by end of March 2022, out of which more than 99 lakh accounts for the scheme were opened during 2020-2021 financial year. The scheme had seen good success due to the active participation of all categories of banks.
Key Highlights:
- Around 71 per cent of the enrolments done by Public-Sector Banks, 19 per cent by Regional Rural Banks, six per cent by Private Sector Banks and three per cent by Payment and Small Finance Banks. State Bank of India, Indian Bank, Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Central Bank of India achieved their annual targets for the scheme in the Public-Sector Bank category.
- Out of the total enrolments under this scheme as on 31st March 2022, nearly 80 per cent subscribers have opted for one thousand rupees pension plan and 13 per cent for five thousand rupees pension plan.
- Out of the total APY subscribers, 44 per cent are female subscribers while 56 per cent are male subscribers.
- Further, out of the total APY subscribers, 45 per cent are aged between 18 and 25 years.
7th Edition of Raisina Dialogue
On 25th of April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the seventh edition of Raisina Dialogue.
Key Highlights:
- President of the European Union Ursula Von Der Leyen will be the chief guest at the Dialogue.
- Several former Prime Ministers of different countries and other dignitaries will also participate in the virtual event.
- Three-day event is based on the theme- Terranova, impassioned, impatient, and imperiled.
- Also, there are six broad thematic pillars of the dialogue including Rethinking Democracy, End of Multilateralism, Water Caucuses, and Achieving Green Transitions.
- Raisina Dialogue will have around 100 sessions with over 210 speakers from 90 countries.
- It is a multilateral conference committed to addressing the most challenging issues facing the global community. Every year, global leaders in policy, business, media and civil society are hosted in New Delhi to discuss cooperation on a wide range of pertinent international policy matters.
- The conference is hosted by the Observer Research Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs.
NITI Aayog & UNICEF India Sign Statement of Intent on SDGs
NITI Aayog and UNICEF India signed a Statement of Intent on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a focus on children. Statement of Intent seeks to formalize a framework of cooperation to launch the first report on the State of India’s Children - Status and Trends in Multidimensional Child Development.
Key Highlights:
- According to NITI Aayog Vice Chairman, Dr. Rajiv Kumar, the child-focused initiative builds on government's effort of monitoring progress through the SDG India Index and Dashboard, which continues to be a unique data-driven initiative for triggering policy action.
- The new initiative is built on the ethos of SDG attainments for children and ensuring that no child is left behind

Sarita Mor, Sushma Shokeen Won Bronze in Asian Wrestling Championships
Sarita Mor and Sushma Shokeen on 21st April won bronze medals for India in their respective women's freestyle weight categories at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Key Highlights:
- Two-time Asian Champion Sarita Mor won two of her four group matches in the 59-kilogram division to finish third in the field of five grapplers.
- In the 55 kg weight category, Sushma Shokeen finishes third in the group of five.
- India has so far won seven bronze medals at the championships. Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers won five medals at the Championships
Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year
India's Captain Rohit Sharma and Pacer Jasprit Bumrah have been named among the ‘Five Cricketers of the Year’ in the Wisden 2022 edition.
Key Highlights:
- The two were named along with New Zealand opener Devon Conway, England pacer Ollie Robinson and South Africa Women captain Dane van Niekerk.
- England skipper Joe Root was named Leading Cricketer in the World in the 2022 edition of Wisden Cricketers' Almanac. Root scoring six centuries in year 2021.
- Wisden, the world’s oldest and foremost chronicler of cricket, chooses five cricketers every year as part of a revered practice dating back to 1889. Any player can be chosen only once.
