India and UK Sign 6 MoUs
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his UK counterpart Boris Johnson reviewed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries during their bilateral talks in New Delhi on 22nd April.
Issues of defence and security cooperation, cyber security and space also figured in the discussion between the two leaders.
Addressing a joint press briefing following the bilateral talks, Prime Minister Modi said, India and United Kingdom have decided to do their best to conclude the Free Trade Agreement by the end of 2022.
Key Highlights:
- India and United Kingdom have signed six Memorandums of Understanding.
- Of the six MoUs exchanged, two are Government to Government, while four are Non-Governmental.
- The MoUs were signed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with his British counterpart, Boris Johnson, during his two-day visit to India.
Economist Suman K Bery Appointed as New Vice-Chairman of Niti Aayog
Dr. Suman K Bery has been appointed new Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog after Rajiv Kumar decided to step down from the post. After Arvind Panagariya and Rajiv Kumar he is the third vice-chairman of Niti Aayog.
Key Highlights:
- He will take charge as Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog from the 1st of May.
- Dr. Suman K Bery had earlier served as Director-General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) in New Delhi.
- NCAER is one of the country's leading independent non-profit policy research institutions.
- He also served as a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, National Statistical Commission and Reserve Bank of India’s Technical Advisory Committee on Monetary Policy.
Meghalaya Games 2022
After a gap of 16 years, the fourth edition of the Meghalaya Games 2022 will be held from 2 to 6 May, Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) announced on 22nd April.
Key Highlights:
- This edition will be the biggest yet, bringing together more than 2,600 athletes across 19 disciplines.
- There were around 1,500 sportspersons in 14 disciplines last time, in 2020.

Anshu Malik, Radhika Won Silver in Asian Wrestling Championships
At Asian Wrestling Championships at Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia, Indian women wrestlers Anshu Malik and Radhika won silver in the 57kg and 65 kg freestyle categories. Another grappler, Manisha clinched bronze in the 62 kg women's freestyle category.
Key Highlights:
- Defending champion Anshu had won all three of her bouts by technical superiority as she had made her way to the final.
- However, in the last summit, she lost the gold medal match 0-4 via fall to Tsugumi Sakurai of Japan.
- Radhika won three of her four bouts in the 65kg category. The only match that she lost was against the eventual gold medallist who is Japan's, Miya Morikawa.
- Manisha defeated Korea's Hanbit Lee 4-2 via fall in the 62kg to win the bronze medal in the playoff.
ECONOMY
IMF Growth Projection for India During 2022-23 is 8.2 Percent
According to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, latest IMF growth projection for India during 2022-23 is 8.2 percent which is the fastest among major economies in the world.
- Addressing the plenary meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee of the IMF, in Washington D.C. yesterday, Mrs. Sitharaman said, India has continued to implement key structural reforms aimed at enhancing productivity and employment.
- During the meeting, Mrs Sitharaman also emphasized the importance of the multilateral approach to combat climate change and the importance of the transfer of climate finance and low-cost technologies from developed to developing countries

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will Visit Russia
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will travel to Moscow on April 25 and meet Russian President Vladimir Putin during the visit.
